Teardrop

Shed a tear for the homeless.

Shed a tear for the heartless.

Shed a tear for the forgotten

Who dwell on thoughts rotten.

And a tear or two here,

And a tear or two there

For daily they disappear

Down bowels of despair.

Reprieve them through prayer

And bestow them some bread

For ‘tis been far too rare

Since their hearts’ve been fed.

And perhaps too you’ll allow

Them a mere bath or a bed

For it ain’t long now

Till you’re both dead, dead, dead!

And postmortem that day

Almighty God’ll say,

“How have ye helped thy fellow

Wicked brethren in any way?”
